The castle houses the SNM – Museum of History, with a permanent exposition on the history of Slovakia, the Crown Tower, the Treasury, the castle chapel and the Celtic Path.
Visit Bratislava describes the Crown Tower as the oldest preserved part of the castle, from the 13th century. It is named after the Hungarian coronation jewels kept there, with interruptions, from 1552 to 1783, and museum visitors can climb it.
Temporary exhibitions change during the year. On the check date they included "Marie Antoinette" until 31 January 2027 and "Sandrik" until 31 May 2027.
How old is Bratislava Castle?
The hill has been settled for thousands of years, and the castle has been rebuilt many times. Visit Bratislava dates a stone palace to the 11th century, Gothic fortifications to the 15th and a Baroque rebuild under Maria Theresa in the 18th.
A fire in 1811 left the castle to decay for a long time. The extensive reconstruction that gives it its present look was completed in 2011.
What is the Baroque Garden?
It is a walled garden at the castle with silver lindens, statues, a fountain and boxwood laid out in Baroque patterns, according to Visit Bratislava.
Its opening hours follow the season, from 9:00 until between 16:00 in winter and 21:00 in June and July. Check the table above for the month of your visit.
