Vienna Airport to Bratislava: Direct Buses, Trains and Taxis
The simplest way from Vienna Airport (VIE) to Bratislava is a direct bus: Slovak Lines, FlixBus and RegioJet all run the route, and FlixBus lists trips from about 41 minutes. There is no direct train, so rail means changing at Wien Hauptbahnhof. Taxis wait outside arrivals. Keep a passport or ID card at hand.
Checked in against Vienna Airport, ÖBB, Slovak Lines, FlixBus and the European Commission. Timetables and rules change: confirm with the operator before you travel.

Is there a train from Vienna Airport to Bratislava?
Not a direct one. You take a train from the airport to Wien Hauptbahnhof and change there to the REX8 or REX6 to Bratislava.
ÖBB says long-distance trains (RJX, RJ and IC) and the REX7 keep running between Wien Hauptbahnhof and the airport during the current works on Vienna's rail trunk line.
From Wien Hauptbahnhof, the REX8 runs to Bratislava hlavná stanica and the REX6 to Bratislava-Petržalka, each roughly hourly. The Vienna to Bratislava guide covers both lines.
How do the Vienna rail works affect the airport?
From 7 September 2026 to the end of October 2027, ÖBB has closed the trunk line between Wien Hauptbahnhof and Wien Praterstern. The S7 only runs between the airport and Wien St. Marx, and the City Airport Train runs as a replacement bus to Wien Mitte.
For Bratislava this matters little, since the direct buses and the trains via Wien Hauptbahnhof are not affected. Vienna Airport advises checking current timetables before you travel.
Can I take a taxi from Vienna Airport to Bratislava?
Yes. Vienna Airport asks passengers to use only the taxi rank directly in front of the arrivals hall or the "City Transfer" counters inside it.
A taxi across the border is the most expensive option, but it can make sense for a group or with heavy luggage. Agree the fare to Bratislava before the journey starts.
Do I need a passport from Vienna Airport to Bratislava?
Yes, keep a passport or national ID card at hand. Austria has notified temporary controls at its border with Slovakia from 16 September 2026 to 15 March 2027.
Non-EU travellers should also check their own entry requirements for the Schengen area.
