When is the last train from Bratislava to Vienna?
On the REX6, the last train leaves Bratislava-Petržalka at 23:16 and reaches Wien Hauptbahnhof at 0:15. On the REX8, the last departure from Bratislava hlavná stanica is at 23:50.
The REX6 runs every hour at 16 minutes past the hour from Petržalka and takes about an hour to Wien Hauptbahnhof. The REX8 leaves the main station at 50 minutes past the hour and takes about 56 minutes on the full run.
In the current REX8 timetable there is no 21:50 departure, so there is a two-hour gap between 20:50 and 22:50. If you miss the 20:50, the REX6 from Petržalka at 21:16 or 22:16 is the alternative.
What changes from 13 December 2026?
VOR says an extra REX8 train pair creates a continuous hourly service between Bratislava hlavná stanica and Vienna from 5:00 to midnight. The new evening train leaves Bratislava at 21:50 and reaches Wien Hauptbahnhof at 22:46.
This closes the evening gap on the REX8. Check the new timetable in the ÖBB journey planner once it is published for your travel date.
When is the last boat from Bratislava to Vienna?
In the 2026 main season, the last Twin City Liner back to Vienna leaves the HUMA 6 pier at 18:30 and arrives at Schwedenplatz at about 20:00. On the Advent cruise dates, the return leaves at 16:30.
The boat takes about 1 hour 30 minutes upstream, longer than the trip to Bratislava. Boarding starts 30 minutes before departure, and you need a passport or national ID card.
Outside the main season and the Advent dates, the 2026 timetable lists no regular sailings, so the train is the only scheduled way back.
Can I take a late bus from Bratislava to Vienna?
Yes, several operators run buses to Vienna and Vienna Airport, but late departures vary by day and operator. Check the timetable for your date when you book.
FlixBus lists Bratislava stops including the Mlynské Nivy bus station and Most SNP. Slovak Lines runs services to Vienna Airport from the Nivy bus station and the main railway station.
How much time should I leave for the last train?
Plan to reach the station well before departure, because the two Bratislava stations are on opposite sides of the Danube. Bratislava-Petržalka is south of the river, while the main station is north of the Old Town.
Buy your ticket before boarding, as ÖBB requires on regional trains. Keep your passport or ID card ready, since Austria runs temporary checks at its border with Slovakia until 15 March 2027.
