Small Carpathian Wine Route from Bratislava: Towns, Open Cellar Day and Tours
The Small Carpathian Wine Route begins inside Bratislava, in districts such as Rača and Vajnory, and continues through wine towns like Svätý Jur, Pezinok and Modra, reachable by regional train or bus. Its biggest event, Open Cellar Day, runs on 20 and 21 November 2026. A guided tour saves organising transport between cellars.

When is Open Cellar Day in 2026?
The Small Carpathian Wine Route association lists the 26th Open Cellar Day for Friday 20 November 2026 from 14:00 to Saturday 21 November until 21:00.
During the event, wineries along the route open their cellars for tastings. Visit Bratislava's listing for the 2025 edition mentioned more than 100 winemakers and cellars in 25 towns, from Devín and Rača to Svätý Jur, Limbach and Modra.
The association also lists a St Martin's young wine tasting on 14 November 2026. Check its website for the programme and how entry works.
Which wine towns can I visit from Bratislava?
The best known are Svätý Jur, Pezinok and Modra, and the route also includes cellars in Bratislava itself, such as in Rača and Vajnory. Slovakia.travel puts Svätý Jur about 10 km from Bratislava.
In Svätý Jur, ViNOCENTRUM offers more than 90 wines from about 20 local winemakers. Pezinok has family wineries making sparkling wine by the traditional method, and Modra is known for both wine and its majolica ceramics.
How do I get to the wine towns without a car?
By IDS BK regional trains and buses. Trains run from Bratislava towards Pezinok and Trnava, and a regional bus line runs from Bratislava via Svätý Jur and Pezinok to Modra.
IDS BK currently marks some Bratislava hlavná stanica–Pezinok trains with a diversion, so check the timetable for your day. Regional bus drivers sell single tickets on board.
The Bratislava CARD with transport covers all IDS BK zones in the Bratislava region. Never drive after tasting: a guided tour or public transport avoids the problem.
Does the Bratislava CARD help with wine?
Yes. Its official benefits list includes a free tasting of Slovak wines, free entry to the Small Carpathian Museum and an exhibition of viticulture, and discounts at some wineries and wine tours.
Most free benefits can be used once per card, and the list was valid on the check date. Confirm the current conditions on the card's website before you go.
What else is there to see in Modra?
Ceramics. Slovakia.travel says Modra majolica is on Slovakia's representative list of intangible cultural heritage, and visitors can try throwing a mug at the Slovak folk majolica manufactory.
The Bratislava CARD lists a discount on the Slovak folk majolica tour. It combines well with a cellar visit in the same town.
